On Monday, May 6, 2019, Anthony Neri, 63, of Sanibel, Florida and previously Branchburg, New Jersey, collapsed during a training exercise for the Sanibel Police Department and passed away from natural causes at Health Park Hospital.

Anthony began his career with the City in 2012 as a Police Traffic Aide and was promoted to the position of Police Officer in 2015.

He had earned CPR Certification as Professional Rescuer and was past recipient of the City’s Perfect attendance Award. In 2017 he was elected by his peers to serve as their representative on the City of Sanibel Police Pension Board.

Anthony retired to Sanibel after a 30-year career as a Revenue Officer with the U.S. Department of Treasury. He also served 3 years as a Police Officer with the Union Township, New Jersey Police Department and served as a Lieutenant and EMT for the Callmen’s Emergency Unit, Union, NJ.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kean University, New Jersey.

In his private life, Anthony held his private pilot license. His love of nature and wildlife led him to Sanibel where he was a volunteer at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation Of Wildlife. He was an actor, producer and past president for the Somerset Valley Playhouse, Hillsborough, NJ. He is a founding member of the New Phoenix Theatre, Ft. Myers, where he was involved in set design and construction. Anthony was a life long Star Trek fan who collected anything Trekkie.

Anthony is predeceased by his father, Daniel Neri who was a Newark New Jersey Police Officer. Surviving is his wife, Debra Case Neri, children, Allison Schulze of Ft. Myers and Daniel Schulze of Ringoes, NJ; his loving mother Rose Menza Neri, Rahway, NJ; sisters and brother in laws: Diane and Ronald Maccia of Las Vegas, NV, Rosanne Neri and Deniell Jerome both of Rahway, NJ; his niece Gina Hoesel, husband Darin and their children Ava and Jacob, his nephew Daniel Maccia of San Diego, CA, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

His loving cats, Miss Lucille and Miss Idgie are already missing his rubs.
